Strong Volkswagen Features the 2012 Passat

Named the 2012 Motor Trend Care of the Year, the Volkswagen Passat offers features that make drivers and passengers alike loyal fans of this Chattanooga, Tennessee produced vehicle.  Not only did the Passat win the coveted Motor Trend Award, but it also is an IIHS Top Safety Pick award winner with six airbags, tire pressure monitoring, electronic stability and anti-lock brakes.

The Passet has more rear passenger leg room than other cars in its class, standard Bluetooth® technology, automatic dual-zone climate control, and an optional Fender premium audio system.  It is not wonder that Passat U.S. sales in 2011 increased by 124% over 2010 and helped Volkswagen of American have its best sales hear in nine years. And the momentum is continuing into 2012 with January sales up 48% over January 2011.

Volkswagen has taken its leading design and technology expertise and used it to build its highly energy efficient Chattanooga production plant, recently acknowledged as the first auto plant to receive the top environmental award from the U.S. Green Building Council. Not only does the plant same 50 million gallons of water over 10 years, using power from a local hydroelectric dam combined with insulation of its walls, the plant will save 720,000 kilowatts on power per year. The 2012 Passat was also a finalist for the 2012 Green Car of the Year Award.

Volkswagen is one of the top 10 employers in Chattanooga providing new jobs as they increase production of the Passat in 2012. They are also a major investor in economic development in the region.
