The VW Karmann Ghia: One of the World’s Most Beautifully Designed Products

The 22nd Annual Parowan, Utah Car Show was held on June 2, 2012 on Main Street. Over 50 vintage cars were featured including a stunning red 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia.

Built in Germany from 1955 – 1974, less than 500,000 Karmann Ghias were produced including  the 2 door coupe and the 2-door convertible body styles.  The Type 14 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia like this one was listed as one of the world’s most beautifully designed products by American designer Walter Dorwin Teague. Of course, Strong Volkswagen carried Karmann Ghias back in the day.

The restored convertible Karmann Ghia featured in these pictures is owned by Debbie J of Parowan who approved the printing of these photos.  She bought it 5 years ago and proceeded to restore the Karmann Ghia to its current mint condition.

The car has been entered in three car shows since its restoration and won best in its class at a Moapa, NV car show. The gorgeous red car also won First Place in Special Interest Cars in the Parowan Car Show featured in this blog.

Have you ever owned or dreamed of owning a VW Karmann Ghia?

Reports about and a VW Hover Car have gone viral on the web! A product of the “People’s Car Project” in China, the Hover Car is displayed in a concept video that has sparked the imagination of the world. Designed by customers to use electromagnetic levitation to float just above the road, the recommended car also contains distance sensors that prevent collisions with people, other vehicles, and buildings.

This imagined silver disk-shaped car is a two-seater with a joystick for maneuverability. The fact that it has no wheels allows the idea car to move easily in all directions including spinning on its own axis. Best of all, the Hover Car does not use fuel and produces no emissions! Remember, this car is NOT REAL. It is an idea! But the concept video is so convincing some people believe the car is operational today. Take a look at the full video here. (The video is in Chinese but the visual is pretty fun).

If the VW Hover Car were real, would you want one? How would you change it? In the meantime, why not check out the actual new cars available at Strong Volkswagen!

Strong Volkswagen: Specializing in Certified Pre-Owned Volkswagens

Buying a pre-owned car can seem like a daunting task but it doesn’t have to be at Strong Volkswagen. If you are well prepared, buying used can be more like an adventure since there we have a large quantity of VW cars in excellent condition that will save you money in the short- and long-run.  Following are some tips to consider when buying a used vehicle.

  1. Set a Budget: Know the range in which you are willing to pay for a used car and stick with it. But remember, not all used cars are created equal.  Some cars come with a warranty and there is the odometer reading to consider along with gas mileage and maintenance history. And finally the cost of possible needed repairs and insurance should be calculated as part of your budget.
  2. Make Comparisons: A lot of research can be conducted online to help you determine makes and models that appeal to you. Consumer reviews are a great resource. Consider safety ratings and features, engine size, gas mileage, and storage capacity.  What is the best size of car to meet your needs and that of your family?  We think that once you have done your research, a pre-owned Volkswagen will be at the top of your list for value, safety, gas mileage, and dependability.
  3. Research Car Values: Once you have determined what make and model of vehicle you want, check out the value of the car through an online resource such as Kelley Blue Book or the NADA Guide. Take into consideration that the actual price of a used car will vary according to the options it comes with along with the mileage. For your convenience, access to NADA and Kelley are available on Strong Volkswagen’s website.
  4. Choosing a Dealership: Trust is key to buying a pre-owned vehicle.  That is why buying a used car from Strong Volkswagen makes sense.  We offer Certified Pre-Owned Volkswagens that come with a 2-year or 24,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty (whichever comes first) and 24-hour roadside assistance. Every certified pre-owned Volkswagen must pass a 112-point inspection which virtually guarantees your new car will be in tip top shape the minute you drive it off the parking lot.

Strong VW Employee Spotlight: Chip Bryson

Getting to know customers by name is just a small part of the service Chip Bryson provides as part of his job as assistant service manager/service advisor at Strong Volkswagen. Chip joined Strong VW in 2002 after a stint as service manager for a BMW Motorcycle dealer.  He believes treating customers right is the reason he recently received the Gold Guild Service Award from Volkswagen of America.  Take a look at a couple of reviews from customers who recognize Chip’s commitment to quality service.

“The main reason I buy VW's is because I know Strong VW is going to service them. In almost 10 years, I’ve never had a bad experience there. I bought 4 cars from them already, 2 brand new and 2 pre-certified and they are great from sales to service. Every time I have a concern, Chip Bryson in service has it fixed. He understands and translates the owner’s questions into Mechanic’s language perfectly! Luigi 11/11

“I bought a 1996 Jetta several years ago from Strong and since then Chip has been providing me with great service. I have never had a problem getting a fast appointment that works with my work schedule and the shuttle is great if I don’t have time to wait. My car has ALWAYS been done on time and on budget and they have gone out of their way to get things covered for me.  One part is no longer in production... they fabricated it for me. That is dedication. I have no hesitation in passing this very well loved car (160000 miles now) down to my girls for their first car. I recommend Chip and his techs to everyone, they are awesome! He will take care of you. He calls and updates me if there are ever any problems and my car is always clean when I come and get it.” Rachel  2/10

Away from the dealership Chip likes to ride motorcycles, builds custom bikes and works with his family training their rescue dog, Riker.
